Amine Wins In Homecoming; Thomas Pushes CWA Record to 3-0

In CWA Showcase 6, Came Amine (Lehigh Valley Hellbenders) did not win his 3-1 bout in the traditional fashion. Peyton Hall (Pittsburgh Skywalkers) was hit for stalling twice while Amine earned a riding time point in the 2nd period that proved to be the difference. Both athletes were hit with stalling in the first period of their 170lb. bout due to a lack of offense.

In the night’s opening bout, we saw Derion Williams (BTS Cleveland) take out Levi Foster (BTS Detroit) by the score of 11-1. Williams, a 2024 OHSAA state finalist opened the scoring with a takedown late in the first period (:02 remaining). His offense didn’t stop there as he racked up two more takedowns throughout the match including three nearfall points to go along with a pair of riding time points in the 2nd and 3rd periods respectively.

Te’Shan Campbell (Mercenary) answered the bell at 195lbs. against an always game, Matt Weinberg (Mercenary). The two were scoreless through the first six minutes of wrestling, and Weinberg chose neutral to start the third period. A late scramble by both athletes with around 45 seconds to go in the final frame found Weinberg able to get height and split the legs of Campbell to secure the lone takedown of the match. Campbell was able to escape quickly, but all of his efforts couldn’t get him in position to finish a shot thus giving Weinberg the win by a score of 2-1. This pushes Weinberg’s record to 2-1 in the CWA.

The first of two 300 pound matches at CWA Showcase 6 at Wayne Memorial High School needed extra time as Christian Lance (Central PA Whitetails) took out Sam Schuyler (NYC Response) by a 9-7 score in overtime of his CWA Debut. Schuyler opened the scoring early with a nice misdirection double leg that allowed him to finish around Lance’s ankles for a 2-0 lead. A quick escape by Lance put the score to 2-1 to end the first three minute period.

Schuyler chose bottom to start the 2nd period and came up quick to get an early escape. The Whitetail, however, responded with a low double of his own halfway through the 2nd period. Another escape by Sam made the score 4-3 to end the 2nd period.

Lance chose bottom to start the 3rd and got an early escape to knot the match at 4-4. Both CWA heavyweights traded half shots until Lance was able to get to Schuyler’s leg on a low single. Schuyler was able to scramble out of the exchange and get a go behind to make the score 6-4. Lance was able to get out and make the score 6-5 and put together a flurry of shots before getting to Schuyler’s leg with a low single and quickly transitioned off to a double leg to take the lead 7-6 with 29 seconds remaining. A stalemate reset the athletes with 19 seconds remaining in the match and that gave Schuyler the opportunity he needed to knot the match at 7-7. Numerous standup and granby roll attempts allowed for Sam to work his hips free and square his hips on top of Christian’s back and work away for the match tying escape with four seconds on the clock.

In overtime, Lance was able to secure the takedown at the :59 mark with a go behind. The Whitetail used a lefty high crotch to get in deep, which forced the Response athlete to sprawl heavily. Lance then went snap down, go behind and did a great job chasing the leg to get the corner.

The second heavyweight match pitted CWA veteran, Demetrius Thomas (Pittsburgh Skywalkers) against a late add to the card in “Gas Tank” Gary Traub (Philadelphia Founders). The difference in this match was slick post double leg from his feet by Meech midway through the first period.

The Gas Tank had multiple opportunities to finish on his feet, but was unable to do so as Thomas’ defense was superb. Traub was able to get to his feet off of that takedown and earn the escape, but couldn’t finish on any of his attempts. Both wrestlers traded escapes in the 2nd and 3rd periods making the final score 3-2 in favor of Thomas. This makes the Skywalker’s record 3-0 in the CWA.

In our premier matchup of the night we saw 4x All-American, Cam Amine, come away with a 3-1 victory over 3x All-American, Peyton Hall. The first period showed a lot of fakes, but not a ton of action. The official hit both of them with stalling in the first three minutes to help encourage action throughout the rest of the bout.

Heading into the 2nd period tied at 0-0, Hall chose bottom. Hall used a combination changeovers and standing switches to attempt to get away, but wasn’t able to get away until Amine accumulated 1:18 of riding time. Amine was able to get in on a sweep single late in the 2nd period, but Hall’s defense proved to be too much as he kept a solid whizzer and allowed the clock to expire.

Amine chose bottom to start the third period with the score tied at 1-1. Hall was hit with stalling after being stalemated multiple times for shelfing Amine’s leg from the top position. Hall kept teetering on the line of riding and stalling and when he dropped down blatantly on the leg, head official Matt Stabley made the second stall call against Hall to make the score 2-1 in favor of Amine. Hall then cut Amine with 1:10 remaining in the match to give himself a chance to tie things up with a takedown. Hall put together multiple attempts with overtie shrugs and sweep single attempts, but Amine shut down all of Hall’s attempts to get the clock to run out and secure a 3-1 victory.
